a ShipEngineer : When you set foot on the flight deck of a carrier that has just left the "Yards", the non-skid on the deck is so coarse that it cuts into your flight boots like broken glass and it can shred your flight suit if you kneel down to preflight your aircraft. But it does give you confidence that your aircraft won’t slide into the sea as you taxi during a "wet launch" while the ship is pitching and rolling. I always do a good check of my tires after recovery because they take a terrible beating when you take a "wire". Most people take it for granted that we are “out there” in daylight and darkness risking it all, but we love it and that is why we chose to be “Blue and Gold”. We are the cocky young warriors.
